North Hollywood, CA ( Prwindow ) January 27, 2009 — 2insure4less.com reports that the total number of states banning text messaging while driving now stands at six, Washington, Alaska, California, Minnesota, New Jersey and Louisiana.

State regulators site the increased number of auto accidents stemming from text message distractions as the reason for the ban. California previously only banned text messaging for those under the age of 18 but 2009 enacts a new law that applies to all motorists regardless of age. Many states have some sort of partial restriction on text messaging but Washington, Alaska, California, Minnesota, New Jersey and Louisiana are the only states with complete text messaging bans for all auto drivers.

Motorist could face increased auto insurance rates for infractions related to text messaging, Of course, the risk of an accident which could increase auto insurance premiums as well goes up considerably when a driver uses a cell phone for talking or texting. Practice safe driving habits and if you need to send a text message, pull over to avoid the repercussions, whether you live in a state that bans texting while driving or not.
