Bangkok, Thailand - On 21 September, 2007 HotelTravel.com will sponsor adventurer and environmentalist Marco Reinhart on his Solo Bike Marathon around the island of Phuket. He will attempt to break the 400 km mark on a mountain bike with 24 hours of non-stop riding in order to raise awareness about pollution and environmental issues facing Phuket and the world.
In November 2007, Marco will attempt to travel 5000 miles in 100 days on a Hobie catamaran (small boat). He will begin his remarkable journey by casting off of the shores of Burma accompanied only by a Burmese sea gypsy that he befriended earlier this year and plans on docking in Taiwan 100 days later.
Marco’s motivation for undertaking such an arduous adventure is not only to raise awareness on environmental issues but also to pay homage to his friend, kayaking legend Mike Shae, who recently died from cancer.
This past July, Marco completed a full circumnavigation of Phuket Island covering almost 200 kilometres in less than 20 hours in a kayak. This journey was both physically gruelling as well as extremely dangerous as the waves from the Andaman Sea proved to be not entirely friendly.
