October 02 2007 -County Clare, IRELAND, 3rd Oct 07 - Clare Local Authorities has prepared a new Irish Language Scheme, in accordance with section 11 of the Official Languages Act 2003.
Mayor of Clare Cllr. Patricia McCarthy will officially launch 'An Scéim Teanga' on Monday October 8th at 7.00pm in Glór Irish Music Centre, Ennis.
The three-year Plan, which came into effect on August 20th, sets out the various services that Clare Local Authorities will make available through the medium of Irish over its lifespan.
"Aontaíodh an beartas seo leis an Roinn Gnóthaí Pobail, Tuaithe, agus Gaeltachta, agus go bhfuil an t-adh linn mar is an tríú Údarás déag ar líon na hÚdaráis Áitiúla gur éirigh leo Scéim dá leithéid a aontú", dar leis an Oifigeach Forbartha Gaeilge, Emer Ní Fhlaitheartaigh.
"San áireamh sa phróiseas ullmhúcháin chun an Scéim seo a chur le chéile bhí próiseas comhairliúcháin inar tionóladh ceardlanna comhairliúcháin poiblí i ngach toghcheantar, cuireadh cártaí aiseolais ar fáil i ngach oifig fháiltithe agus i ngach leabharlann chomh maith. De thoradh sin, scríobhadh an doiciméad seo le smaointí, riachtanais agus moltaí bhaill foirne an Údarás Áitiuíl agus an phobail a thabhairt chun tosaigh chun go mbeadh doiciméid cuimsitheach againn", ar sise.
The objectives of An Scéim Teanga include the gradual introduction of the motor taxation service through the medium of Irish (on designated week days); the bilingual provision of library services in some of Clare's fifteen library branches and the provision of bilingual counter service in all Local Authority Directorate offices.
The Scheme also aims to complete the translation and bilingual formatting of all Local Authority application forms, to introduce bilingual elements to the Clare County Council website, and to provide a list of staff in various council offices who are willing to conduct business through Irish.
The eventual aim of Schemes of this type is to ensure that all services will eventually be provided bilingually
